The application process for organisations involves a capability assessment conducted in partnership with the organisation. If you are applying to register an organisation on behalf of a relevant authority, please contact the authority in advance to let them know we will be contacting them.

Professional Affiliate

A professional affiliate is another professional body or other membership organisation formally recognised by the Institute as requiring the same standards from its members (general or specialised). Members of such organisations have an automatic right to be entered onto the register. An application for affiliation must be authorised by no less than the head of the admissions or membership department.

Licensed Institution

A licensed institution is an educational or training organisation officially recognised by the Institute as meeting the academic and professional standards for bestowing Institute qualifications. Such organisations are supported in delivering any Institute qualification and may enter students directly onto the register. An application for licensure must be authorised by no less than the head of the relevant university department or training unit.

Independently Assured Organisation

An independently assured organisation is an Intelligence organisation or distinct part thereof that adopts and enforces Institute policy for professional practice. The organisation, organisational unit or role is entered onto the register and all those within it are automatically considered registered. An application for assured status must be authorised by no less than the head of the organisation.

Applications for Independently Assured status may currently only be made by professional members willing to issue a supporting statement on behalf of their employer.

Official Logos

As a regulatory body the Institute has strict rules concerning affiliation of any kind with the Institute. It is only permissible to present a recognised status or the accompanying logo on documents issued on behalf of the Institute, on the professional stamp and on the letterheads of the Institute, its affiliates and licensed institutions. The Institute may also grant permission to use the logo in press articles and news items relating to the Institute on a case by case basis.

Logos are available in different sizes, colours and formats upon request. Institutions are free to use the following logos and status appropriate to their designation:

Logo for any membership organisation formally recognised by the Institute as a professional affiliate.

Logo for any educational or training organisation licensed to bestow Institute qualifications or enter candidates onto the register.

Logo for any intelligence organisation under full and independent oversight.
