Regardless of qualifications and experience, applicants should prepare for a long and intrusive application process. Candidates may require supplementary training before certification is awarded and examinations, interviews and portfolio submissions will also be required. Candidates should also be aware that continuous development and competitive advancement is expected of all registrants. Even after passing initial selection, registrants will be competitively assessed throughout their career.
Annual re-certification does not require this same intrusive validation of evidence, but registrants must maintain an annual record of professional development, working hours and vetting in case of audit.
Intelligence Graduates
Graduates of Institute-accredited Intelligence degrees may enter directly onto the general register and begin specialist training for subsequent registration as human-domain specialists. Alternatively, they may register as signals/cyber-domain specialists if they have also attained chartered engineer status in that field.
Graduates should still apply via this route if they hold equivalent qualifications to those aforementioned or their university/degree is unaccredited. In those cases the Institute will verify qualifications and institutions as a part of the application process and accredit them on a case-by-case basis. However, graduates should be prepared to allow additional time in processing their application and may need to undertake a short distance-learning bridging course if any skill or knowledge gaps exist.
Other Graduates
Graduates of other degree programmes must enter onto the General Service Course (GSC) or an equivalent accredited programme prior to licensure on the general register. Graduates may apply for Accreditation for Prior Learning (APL) granting them exemption from certain courses if the majority of the course content has been covered in prior training and education. Non-Graduates
If the applicant has successfully completed the full-time equivalent of at least one year of post-compulsory education or regulated intelligence training certified by an EU member state, they may enter directly onto the GSC prior to licensure on the general register. Non-graduates are not eligible for APL exemptions from these courses. After general registration they may pursue specialist registration as if they held an accredited Intelligence degree.
Pre-Application Guidance
Candidates should carefully examine the minimum requirements for certification and registration prior to making an application. If the candidate feels they meet these requirements or can meet them within 2 years, they should then consider how they can provide evidence of meeting as many criteria as possible in an electronic ‘PDF’ portfolio. The profile should be compressed to less than 1MB in size.
Applicant’s personal data is never retained by the Institute longer than it is required for application. However, at the applicants request, the applicant can complete the application process anonymously via the use of a trusted notary as a third party.
